Description

Join us September 24th-28th, 2024, to weave a tallit (24 x 72″) of your own design! Stripes, colors, and materials are up to you. No weaving knowledge is necessary– we will support your design vision to the best of our abilities. Tzitzit spun (tevia lishma) by Fury Wren will be provided.

The format of the course is entirely hands-on. You can weave at your own pace, with demonstrations and assistance from the instructors. We’ll also briefly cover the halacha of tallitot. We encourage you to connect over additional text study and ritual outside of class.

Nelly (she/her) and Rosemary (ze/hir/her) are professional weavers, queer Jews, and seasoned craft educators. This workshop is generously hosted by The Weaver’s Croft of Marshfield, VT, the creative home of master weaver Kate Smith– the nation’s foremost expert in barn loom weaving and historic textiles of New England. We have the privilege of using the Croft’s unique collection of beautiful historic looms.

Tuition is offered on a sliding scale basis ($300-700). It covers 5 days of instruction and studio use. A fee for materials used will be added at the end of the week ($30-80). Limited on-campus lodging is also available on a sliding scale ($20-100), and there are inns and rentals nearby.

If you have questions about accessibility, lodging, reduced tuition, or anything else, please email Rosemary at loom@sprig.site.
